<image:title>Art Installation - Mayim v’Shamayyim/ Water and Sky by Julia Rymer Bruckner</image:title>
<image:caption>In Genesis, G-d first creates light and dark on one day, and then water and sky on the next. These acts construct a duality in which each component reflects its opposite and stands in relationship to one another. The Hebrew words for water and sky, mayim and shamayyim, sound and are spelled similarly as well, demonstrating a close correlation to one another. Created with the MOED space in mind, this painting blends water and sky, light and dark, into a relational entity. There is a sense of oneness and unity within the work, with colors and brushstrokes blending and building upon each other. Drips and splatters are references to the power of water and its connection with weather. Lastly, the words “Mayim” and “Shamayyim” are buried within the layers of paint as written Hebrew cursive elements.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Art Installation - Reeds by Mark Wren</image:title>
<image:caption>I was inspired to create my gift of Art to the Mikvah after touring the site. I pondered this pursuit of purity and was inspired to take an organic approach understanding how Mother Earth uses water similarly: the creation of grasses or reeds and All life. My medium is steel; water does not purify steel, it rusts it, but this is also a validation of life and how it will always move forward, evolve and be transformed. The addition of dragonflies symbolizes transformation as well; and the Mikvah is about a spiritual transformation much like the dragonfly symbolizes growth, evolution and transformation. The sculpture is a gift with love and my heartfelt admiration of what the Mikvah offers to those seeking a transformation. Moreover, adapting to a new transformed future is the inspiration behind “Reeds!”</image:caption>

<image:title>Art Installation - In the Blue by Kathy Berenstein</image:title>
<image:caption>The image depicts a woman basking in open ocean water. Her eyes are closed, drinking in the warmth of the sun. The fragrance of a tropical lily adorns her sun-kissed face. I selected this piece because it represents the purification properties of water and a sense of inner calm.</image:caption>

<image:title>Art Installation - Madame Butterfly by Kathy Berenstein</image:title>
<image:caption>A woman with an elongated neck surrounded by butterflies. I selected this piece because it represents an experienced woman’s life through her elegant neck. Butterflies are symbolic of transformation: a caterpillar to a butterfly. One transforms many times over throughout a lifespan, represented by the many butterflies.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I didn’t have a background in mikvah — I didn’t know about mikvah — because I am from Ukraine, where we do not have a Jewish education and had trouble with any religious practice. I wanted to participate once I learned about water In Judaism. My sculpture is called the wave. Once I learned about water, I knew this was perfect for the mikvah. It was an easy decision to donate this sculpture.</image:caption>

<image:title>Art Installation - Water Gives Life by Rozanne Kobey</image:title>
<image:caption>I had just finished my painting,"Water Gives Life", when I realized there was a new Mikvah being built in Denver. I learned that the Mikvah of East Denver is available to anyone in the Jewish community to gain a clarification of body and mind, to meditate, to connect with oneself and ancestors, to pray and be spiritually refreshed and renewed ...giving a more modern version of a Mikvah, as well as, keeping the traditional history and practices. It brings together the ancient and modern and creates a place for everyone in the Jewish community through the symbolism of water. The painting represents the family and families of Jews around the world.</image:caption>

<image:title>Art Installation - Spring Thaw by Lela Kay</image:title>
<image:caption>When glaciers begin to melt and thaw, you can see a glimpse of translucent aqua resting against the brilliance of the frozen white ice. This painting , "Spring Thaw" evokes the delicate forces of nature that are constantly changing and gives us water which is the essence of life and the essence of the Mikvah - water. I thought this painting would be the most appropriate subject matter for the Mikvah of East Denver and was delighted that it was chosen to be a part of the beautiful display of artistic talent of our local artists.</image:caption>
